It's time again for our "Weekly" plumbing tip from Farley! In this week's segment, we are going to discuss a steaming hot water faucet. Who hasn't had one of those? Well, our trusty plumber, Farley has the answer. Take it away Farley!
How do we fix a steaming hot water faucet? Well, I'm glad you asked. A steaming hot water faucet is usually a sign of an overheated hot water heater, as apposed to a "Cold Water Heater," (a little joke I learned in Plumbing School) Why would someone want to heat HOT water??? I've never understood that.... to each his own.
The first step in relieving a steaming hot water faucet is to open all the hot water faucets to relieve the overheated hot water heater.
Second, Turn off the gas or electric supply to the heater. If you don't, you could have the shock or explosion of your life! Let the faucets run until cold water flows from them (this indicates the water in the heater is no longer overheated).
Turn off the faucets, or as we say in the plumbing world "Close'em."
Call in a professional, like a student from the Farley Wells Institute of Plumbing Technology, to make any necessary repairs to the heater's thermostat and pressure relief valve.
By following these steps, you should take care of the steaming hot water faucet. If not, I don't know what to do!
Wow! I never knew that. Thanks Farley for your insight!
