Mad Medics

It was a lovely night for an outdoor concert, in the 60's and a clear sky...tonight we went to the "Summer Concert Series" in Weeks Park South, formerly known as Funland, to watch some local jazz icons perform. The group was originally a bunch of medical doctors who formed a jazz band, but has since accepted other professions in the band. The Mad Medics all wore the red and white striped jackets with the little black bow tie and black pants, much like a barbershop quartet without the hats. And did they ever play!! One of them I knew from high school, he used to clinic our concert band before our spring competitions, one of the many of whom to credit the success of the band program in IP. I know him as Mr. Enlow, I think that's how you spell it, he is a trombonist. He taught Darin, my cousin, everything he knows about the sackbut, those who have heard Darin, have heard Mr. Enlow. He is 87 years old and still plays the trombone like he's 20! What a night! We heard songs like Georgia on My Mind, Stardust, When the Saints Go Marchin' In, and many many more. They are more of a Ragtime band than a Big Band. My personal favorite type of jazz. I made sure and wore my Preservation Hall Jazz Band - New Orleans, LA T-shirt for the occasion. Thanks to my best friend Jason for that shirt, I LOVE it!! I loved the concert too!!

I didn't know that they had moved the concert series to a new place? Is that for the whole season?
