has been a week of coming home, also known as Homecoming in Iowa Park. Yesterday, we had our annual, Homecoming Parade, a time when you can't get within two blocks of our business and the high school band finds it fitting to meet on the funeral home lawn and bang on their drums until the band director arrives and reprimands them. I mean, who wouldn't find it fitting to bang on drums in a funeral home lawn or for that matter, just bring'em on inside, might as well! Not like they can't be heard in there.Anyway, today was when we have what is called the "Whoop-T-Do," and it normally lives up to it's name, but this year, I looked out the window and it looks as if the Great State Fair of Texas moved to 100 East Cash St. We've got bouncer's, food, games, and even a longhorn that you or your children can pay to ride, I know I'm gonna do that one later:)
The funeral home, like every year, sponsors the Whoop-T-Do by contributing to the "Turtle Trot." Turtles from miles around come to strut their stuff and see who is the Hom
ecoming Champion of the Trot. Actually, what we do is, kids and even some adults bring their turtle they caught, painted, and kept in prisoned for who knows how long, set them in the middle of a big spray painted circle on the street and see who get's to the outside of the cirlce first. It's quite humorous, people actually get serious about it. REALLY! They get their turtle out and "warm it up" in the mornings to strengthen it's legs for the race. We do give quite a hefty prize to the winner though, $30 for first and $20 to second. I tell you though, the day I quit is when I see that turtle in Wal-Mart spending it's prize money! REALLY, I'll quit.

Every town in America ought to have one of these, and probably has at one time or another. It's our very own "Maybury Police(Poll/eec) Car" with it's very own siren(SI/REEN) on top.

- approved by Farley Wells who is, right now, running from an irate longhorn. Shouldn't have worn the spurs, Farley!
