Happy Memorial Day!

Here I am, once again, everyone else in the civilized world sleeping in, while I am getting dressed, waiting for the 8 o'clock hour to arrive; preparing to sit in a cemetery, awaiting those hundreds of faithful cars to arrive to "Memorialize" their loved one's grave. A lot of people see today as a patriotic day, to remember those who died for our freedom, but as I learned in this business, it is a day for EVERYONE, who has died, to be remembered. I had never thought of it that way until working for a funeral home with a cemetery.
And though, our corporation has seen fit to, as they do so well, turn this day into a day to generate sales, I still see it as a day to remember. I remember my Maw-maw, who lived a Holy and Righteous life. I remember a Paw-paw, who always had a smile, a wise word, and some REALLY HARD biscuits, nobody ate, so they sat on the porch, waiting for the dogs to feast upon them. I remember Joe and Barbara who were like a second set of parents to me. I remember an uncle who was a true, All-American Cowboy. And I remember two that I don't remember because they died before I was even thought of, my grandpa on my dad's side and my grandma on my mom's side, with all the stories I've heard, I sure wish I had known them.
So today, while you celebrate a day off, eating burgers, or enjoying a lake, remember that special someone you love that has gone on to their reward. Remember those brave who fought and died for our freedom, and remember me, the person who has to stop these cars as they enter the cemetery to hand them a survey about how we're doing and whether or not they have pre-arranged their funeral services, a part that I think the day would be much better without. Happy Memorial Day Everybody!!

-approved by Farley Wells, SAD-CMDI who checked yes on his survey.

Enjoyed your memories! I hope the day is not too bad out in the scorching heat. You could rig up a sign that flashes "BUY NOW!" to help your sales and do a dance as they come into the cemetery. Doesn't fit the soft sell approach although it could make your day more interesting! LOL.

I'm so sorry you had to work today, but I, too, enjoyed your memories! I've been thinking a lot about memories here lately. I guess that's what happens when a person gets older. Hope your day goes smooth.

Well, thank you both. Bro. Gene, It could have said, "BUY NOW, PAY LATER, LIFETIME WARRANTY!" LOL.
