A Van, a Saturday, and a Great Idea

After hearing a wonderful idea from our Mexican friend, we decided to take his advice and go to the Wichita Mountains for a brief and very relaxing day getaway. Joseph gassed up the van and loaded Brandon, David, Cosme, Kim and I all up and we went.

We had a wonderful time eating at the Riverside Cafe in Medicine Park, which happened to have trees growing up through it! Kinda different, but cool. The food was great! Kim and I had fried catfish and what they called "Bottle Caps", fried slices of Jalapenos.... VERY GOOD!! Not too spicy and just the perfect size for an appetizer. It was a great restaurant, if you like a "anything fried" place.

After eating, we discovered Medicine Park, a small community that was once a large bathing pool where people came for getaways in the 20's and 30's. It reminded me of an old ski lodge or something. We walked around, fed the ducks and took pictures for a while, noticed a random Pay Phone by the river, and then headed for the traditional trip up Mt. Scott.
Once atop "The Scott" we quickly realized we aren't as young as we once were. We climbed down on rocks and were POOPED as we tried to scale back up the side of the rocks. I, of course, whining about a headache.... at least Cosme said I was. I lost it though. I think the adrenaline rush of the climb kicked the massive blood cell that was stuck in my head, pounding against my brain, out of the way, relieving the pain. Thank God!
After the trip up and down the mountain, we went to the Holy City where we toured the life and times of Christ, another Wichita Mountain Tradition. Though, I didn't know they had gift shops in the "Holy Day." Maybe that's what lead up to the whole Jesus in the Temple incident.... who knows?

Anyway, we had a wonderful time and enjoyed getting away for a bit. As Cosme said, I feel 'refreshed.' What a Saturday!

-approved by Farley Wells, CMDI who is fuming because he didn't get to go..... poor baby.

Well thank you. It's about the longest non-working Saturday I've had in a long time! Very enjoyable. Oh, I hope you're feeling better.
