Friday, July 17, 2009: Kim's car seems sluggish when it starts, but we're hopeful it's nothing serious. Took car to trusted friend for "expert" advice; thinking we'd saved a "sick" battery... great day turned good.
Saturday, July 18, 2009: Replaced bad battery to the tune of $89.95.... kinda hurt, but still a good day.
Monday, July 20, 2009: Car runs great!!! Kim goes to work just fine... until 11:30 when a flat tire is discovered on the passenger front, but thank God for Geico Roadside Assistance! Got the spare put on free of charge AND sweat... could have been better, but not that bad of a day.
Tuesday, July 21, 2009: Left house at 9 AM in the Heavy Chevy(HC) to go pick-up Kim's car for a trip to the tire fixer place(aka: Barry's Service Station) in Iowa Park. Upon arrival to Kim's car, I parked the HC in their lot which is enclosed with knee high pipe fencing. Got in Kim's car and headed to Iowa Park. Once in Iowa Park, at Barry's, I quickly discovered the wheel key was missing from the glovebox and realized it was still in Kim's purse... in Wichita Falls... nothing a quick call and 20 minute trip back to where I just came from didn't fix. After the fixation of the tire, I made one last trip to Wichita Falls to deliver the freshly fixed flat back to Kim and it just so happened to be lunch time. Being the sweet husband that I am, I took Kim to Casa Manana where we met a friend for lunch. It was a good lunch! Upon completion of lunch, I went back to Kim's job where the HC was patiently awaiting my arrival for the pleasant drive home. I get in, pump the gas, and turn the key... perfect start!! I shift into reverse and begin my backing from the parking space, never knowing of the one short post just high enough to grab the passenger front fender of the truck. Yep! Drove home with a bumper sticking straight out in front and little wire flags(the only thing I could find) holding the poor truck together... not a good day.
Wednesday, July 22, 2009: Was having a great day off and planned to mow the yard seeing as it was a beautiful 86 degrees out, not bad at all for July in Texas!! I get the mower out, top off the gas, check the oil, and get started... very nice!!! Two mowing rows into the yard, my one year old Troy Built Lawnmower with a Honda engine decided to blow a huge cloud, and I mean HUGE CLOUD of smoke out the muffler... spit, spit, sputter... clunk! Nothing... No start, no matter how I tried or yelled or pulled my hair... NO START!!! I finally gave up, put the mower up, went inside and laughed at everything that went wrong since Friday... Bad day, though I laughed anyway!
Thursday, July 23, 2009: I worked a good day at work and was on my way home at 5:20 when I received a call from Kim who was anxiously awaiting my arrival home. I found this odd, seeing as I wasn't late AT ALL for my usual arrival home... in fact, I was a bit earlier than normal. Well, I walk in the door to a smiling face and some of the best news a married young man could ever hear. She was simply holding an "unfamiliar" object out for me to look at and said... "two lines mean positive." I said, "What?" and she said, "I'm pregnant!!"
I can't even say how happy I am to know that I am going to be a father. Nah, who'm I kiddin', I'm gonna be a DADDY!!! I still don't think it's really sunk in just yet, but I am really happy, though I may not be bouncing off the walls, as expected by some. I just don't even know how to respond... I'm left with all these thoughts; happy, scary, funny, loving, every feeling I can imagine, I'm feeling it all at once!!
I guess God just needed to distract us for a few days while he performed a miracle in our lives this week. That's the way I'm looking at it anyway!
Today, Friday, July 24, 2009 is one of the best days of my life!! Now for names, nursery, and no naps!
-approved by Farley Wells, CMDI who doesn't understand why this doesn't make him a grandpa... Farley, you're not my dad, or KIM'S!!! Weirdo!
