Storm Siren's a Blowin!

Storm sirens are good. Storm sirens have great value. Storm sirens are something that most of the time we never even remember are there, but when we need them, we NEED them. Storm sirens have saved many lives since their invention and are praised for their value in “Tornado Alley” of which Iowa Park is at the base.

Did you know that storm sirens are capable of projecting their loud, sometimes annoying blast for miles? Did you know that there are even some storm sirens that twirl in circles to make certain they can be heard in the farthest reaches of an area in every direction? Did you know that storm sirens can keep you awake all night long when they malfunction?

I learned that last one last night. Iowa Park is having issues with their storm sirens. For some reason, the program is messed up and every two hours, on the hour, they sound… tornado or not! Now, this doesn’t happen during daylight hours while the world is at play… NO, it only happens beginning at 12:01 AM, 2:01 AM, 4:01 AM and 6:01 AM, two nights running to this point. The police dept. says they are working on it, and I think that might be the problem. Get a Storm Siren Specialist (SSS) after it instead of Barney Fife and the thing just might allow a small, normally quiet community to get its much needed rest!

Today, as I sat in a funeral, about to doze off from the lack of sleep overnight, I was jarred awake by what, at first sounded like the storm siren blowing again. I was sadly mistaken. It was granddaughter singing to grandpa the most deplorable rendition of “His Eye is on the Sparrow” I have ever heard. It sounded much more like “His Eye is on the Hyena Being Forced into an Industrial Sized Tree Mulcher.” It was bad! It made me long for those sleepless hours of “Ode to Storm Siren in D Minor.”

I siiiiing becaaaause I’m happyyyyy... I siiiiiing becaaaause--- I’m freeeeee…

-approved by Farley Wells, CMDI who is shimmying his way up to the storm siren as I type. Who knew he was a Storm Siren Specialist?

Poor girl...thought a "key" was something you use to unlock an elephant's trunk. She didn't want to get close to it.
