Thank You

On this last weekend of a presidency, while the whole world seems to be frothing at the mouth at Obama’s every step, his Blackberry, his train rides, changes of clothes, sneezes, coughs, and probably other bodily functions; I want to pause and say thanks to a man I have grown to admire and see as a hero.

There are not too many men in my life that I can simply see a picture of and feel my chest swell with pride that they somehow influenced my life in some way to make me a better person or to make my world a better place to live. I mean, there’s my Dad who does so, my Pastor who does so, and for the past… well, as long as I can remember, my President.

When I was but a young teenage boy, I’d turn up the radio outside; play catch with the wall; and dream of being a pitcher for the Texas Rangers; filling hours of my childhood with the team’s performances, some good… many bad, but always enjoyable. Sure, I was disappointed every year after the All-Star Break, when the Rangers would inevitably come up short for the play-offs, but I was always a fan. Oddly enough, that was made possible at that time by the team's owner, George W. Bush.

Through High School, he was my Governor. A man that I feel, changed Texas for the good, and at that point I admired and was proud to say I was from his state.

In college, he became my President; a man that went into office with one of the highest approval ratings of any President; a man who rallied the country after that tragic September morning when our lives were changed forever; a man who sought his country’s opinion for fighting a now unpopular war on terror, which we overwhelmingly came together and fought, overthrew a horrid dictatorship, and created a new democracy right in the middle of the most turbulent region in the world. Yes, the war still rages on and there have been many lives lost, but unlike what every liberal nut head might say, it has NOT been in vain. Though his approval rating may be one of the lowest now, it doesn’t matter. He never paid much attention to that anyway. He simply did what he felt was best for our country, went with his heart, and protected us; and we are a better country for it!

If he should ever grace my blog with his viewership, I'd just like to say, thank you President Bush! You’ve affected my life in many ways and though the media was quick to leave your good-bye to return to "regular programming", we all owe you a lifetime of thankfulness, and history will one day prove that you did the right thing, and you are definitely a hero in my eyes.

Welcome home to the great State of Texas! God bless you and your family and may God continue to bless America!

Thank you Bro. Lynn! I agree with your sentiments exactly. I am proud of President Bush and always will be. We will find out in years to come the many things that he protected us from simply due to his love for this country and his fellow man.

Truly may God bless him and this country.

Thanks again for a great post from the heart!
