Greenish Thumb

Yesterday I began a small yard project that I finished just a couple of hours ago, I taught myself how to landscape. Our sad looking new tree needed something to make it look a bit more cheery and the yard needed some color, so I used what was left of our housewarming gift cards to Home Depot, put a little extra with it, bought some limestone, flowers, and mulch; and came up with what is pictured below. This is the new Red Oak tree. I'm hoping it's just changing colors for the season and not because I'm a bad gardener.
This is the tree that was all ready in the front yard . It's smaller than the other but much fuller. It looked more like a bush than a tree when we moved, but with a little trimming it's turning into quite the nice looking little tree. And this is a close-up of the flowers I planted. They're yellow and reddish colored mums.

It was quite a learning experience for me and I really enjoyed it. Kim said she was impressed, so I guess I did a good job. Think I'll start on the backyard before long!

-approved by Farley Wells, CMDI who was coaching me the WHOLE TIME! Thanks Farley.

Good job with the landscaping! Your little tree in the front yard looks like a Bradford Pear. They usually grow quickly (at least ours did) and turn a pretty purple color in the Fall.

I, too, am impressed. I didn't know you had it in you. However, I did know you are a artist, and you can do whatever you set you mind to. Good job.

Well thanks everybody. I'm glad I finished yesterday, cause I think the wind is about to blow away everything today! Plus, it's freezing cold out there right now.

Carla-The little tree is a Bradford Pear. I hadn't thought about the whole purple thing, but these two trees will look great with each other one day, red and purple. WOW! Everything's coming up...uh...MUMS!
