I'm realizing that with the joys of finding a new house, finding a home, finding a place to start a family, finding just the perfect floor plan with just the right amount of living and sleeping areas balanced with the perfect yard, comes the more important decisions. Decisions that can wreak havoc on a person's sleep and can even cause the growth of gray hair. The important decisions that have bee known to set husbands and wives at odds and cause bitterness among all who are befriended to them. You know, like, what color of paint to use, where to put the couch, things like that.
Kim and I have found the house that will hopefully be our home. The way God’s worked so far, I’m sure we’ll get it! We've made certain that each detail of the home will suite our lifestyle both personally and socially. We've discussed our colors, the dining table we want that will seat us, our family, and our friends we hope will frequent our humble abode. We've made certain there is a room fit to be a nursery to house any new addition(s) that may be made in the near future. We've laughed, cried, smiled, dreamed out loud, and stressed over things some would see as frivolous but are ever so important to us. After all of this preparation, there is something I didn't think about.
Yesterday, at work, I thought about something that I brought to Kim's attention last night just before dinner. Where will we put MY stuff?? You know, my baseball collectibles! I have 13 replica stadiums, autographed baseballs, and unused Ranger tickets when Nolan was forced into retirement due to an injury, not to mention my HATS!! Where can I put all of my stuff? I mentioned putting it on my side of the bedroom, but that didn't fly. I was told that until we have a kid, I can put my stadiums in that room, but once the baby arrives, we would have to move them to the....um, "we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.". I was told that my hats can go straight to storage! Can you believe? What will I do without hats around the ceiling, and what about when we arrive at "the bridge?" Will my collectibles suffer the same fate? Will they be tossed aside like our old junk that, for some reason, we keep in boxes in the “Junk” closet filling space but never used, never to be admired again?? What will I do? How will I function without 11 years worth of collectibles to swell my chest and brag for no reason but of ownership?
Another wonderful part of life, figuring out what can stay and what must go; changing with change and yet trying to keep it all the same. I really am enjoying the change that is just around the bend. Can't believe I'm actually going to have a house after 11 years of funeral home apartment living. Finally, an escape!

LYNN, I BELIEVE THAT IT IS A THREE BEDROOM HOUSE, THE MASTER BEDROOM, THE FUTURE NURSERY(STORAGE UNTIL THEN), AND THE GUEST/LYNN'S COLLECTABLE ROOM. I AM VERY PROUD FOR Y'ALL,
I'm so happy for both of you! I know you will make your house a "home" with lots of memories. Just have Kim do what I do with Harden: give him about 3' of the closet for his clothes and any other personal items he might have. He seems to be content with that, seeing that his "hobby" stays outside.....coondogs!
You need a glass curio cabinet big enough to hold your stadiums.
I'm excited for y'all and what the future holds.
Oh, no......The Extra room is the guest room. That will be cutely decorated and we already have the decor, so no.....that room wont work. He can us the office room, until a little one joins us. He'll have to get a "man shed" at that point.
Sis. Janet, the master bedroom has he/she closet. I told him he can put whatever in his closet.
Sis. Karla,
He has a glass curio cabinet, that is where all his stadiums are now.
Congrats! When is the closing date?? I agree to the collectables/Guest room. But when the 2nd kid comes thats when we had to make a few changes and the garage became Todd's domain. And now 8 years later we are buying land and going to build a metal building that will be Todd's shop. The toys only get bigger as we get older and you need more room.
Lynn, you are so funny! I feel for ya! We always had an extra bedroom BK (before kids)that was an office. But once babies start arriving, not much else matters! We haven't had an office since!
It is exciting buying your first house, choosing colors and decorating! I am happy for y'all.

I couldn't help but laugh a little as I read the post. My husband and I have been helping to clean out some storage buildings for the Elms, in which a gold mine of Louis La'Mour books were buried. He has brought many of them home and I don't mind at all except We Don't Have a Place for Them!!! LOL I know he'll find somewhere but until we get our mansions over there I guess we'll always face the problem of not enough room for "our" stuff!!!
Coming from experience, after cleaning out THREE STORAGE BUILDINGS of our "stuff" and Daddy and Mother's "stuff", I'm about to decide to "have stuff", but after awhile when you can't collect anymore, because of room....take pictures of it and keep them on a disk to view on your computer. If we would have done that then we wouldn't have had to PAY for keeping "stuff" we NEVER looked at! It is painful getting rid of it all, but I'm starting to feel better about it. I feel for you, Lynn. It's hard for me to separate from "stuff" that holds memories! But, so much of it is useless.
