Finally, I am able to post after a grueling week and weekend. I don't know what it is, but work has just been crazy this past month. I feel as if I have hardly sat down! But now, my day of rest has finally come, one of those days... you know.... my "Day Off Hair Days." So far, I've done nothing and plan to do so until I absolutely have to this evening when we go to our annual "Kids Fest" at the church.
Saturday, after a long day's work, I had the wonderful opportunity to be a guest musician at my friend's church. He's the pastor of the AME church in Wichita Falls. Rev. Darrell Turner is his name. He and his wife are some of the sweetest people I know and I enjoyed being able to play at their church. My Band (keyboard: Kassie, bass: Jeremy, and drums: Junior, aka: Cosme, CO2, Bob) went for a service called "When Men Sing." It's a monthly gathering of the men of the Eastside Ministerial Alliance who join together, singing and worshipping God. They sing just about every type of Black Gospel there is. Several of the groups sounded much like the old New Orleans style singing. The nice part about it was nobody was there to impress. Nobody there was worried about what anybody else thought. Nobody there even cared about what last name you had. They all simply came together with one goal, to worship God. It was quite refreshing. If you ever get a chance, go to a service. You will not regret it, I assure you! Thank you so much, Darrell, for inviting me and "my gang" to play for you. I'm sorry I don't have any pictures of the event, but it's hard to play the sax and take pictures at the same time. Kassie got some photos, so maybe she'll post them. How did she play the keyboard and take those pics?! That's talent!
Anyway, hopefully it won't be another week before I post again. Thank you all for the kind letters and comments during this difficult time. I cherish them ONE and all.
-approved by Farley Wells, CMDI who is trying to play the mouth harp and take photos at the same time... Quite humorous, I must say!
