Howya'll!! In one week, an event begins that I have grown to love. It's the Great State Fair of Texas. It begins the last weekend of September and runs through the third weekend of October and is just such a testament to all that is Texan.Every year, for the past 5 or so, I've gone to the fair and I am always amazed at how many people actually do go to this event on any given day. When I lived in Dallas, we went on a Tuesday, the 'least' crowded of days, and it was just people everywhere! You can't even imagine how many people are there on "Red River Shootout Weekend." Which, even though I feel that a real team like Texas Tech should play in it, I do have to stand behind the burnt orange as they kick the pants off Oklahoma! I'm probably the only one at the fair wearing the Double 'T' on my hat that weekend.
From the Chinese Acrobats to car shows, dog shows to petting zoos, there's something for EVERYONE at the fair. Quite possibly my most favorite event is the car show. Every year, in two massive buildings, there is every brand new car
you could imagine, from the new Nissan Sentra, to the latest Bentley. Most cars you can sit in, smell the new, and dream it was yours, though some, like the Bentley, are roped off so you can't even breathe on them. It's something when a Mercedes Benz is looked at as 'cheap' at a car show! I remember back a couple years when the 07 Tahoe was just released. I actually had dreams of seeing it and couldn't wait to go. At the time, I had my own Tahoe, 04. Oh how I wish I had it now, except for the gas bills. Thank God for a Nissan Sentra! Did you know that we now pay as much to fill up our Altima as my first fill up was in our Tahoe? Shows how much gas
has actually gone up!
Anyway, our other favorite event is the food. So it's not an event, but ohho what a time! I personally like the roasted corn on the cob with your choice of seasoning, from Cajun to Lemon Pepper.... yum! And then there is EVERYTHING FRIED, don't eat the fried Oreo.... definitely not what it's cracked up to be, but the cheesecake is great. And, who can mention the fair without talking about the Fletcher Corn Dog! Ner a better corn dog in all the nation then the Fletcher, and The Great State Fair of Texas is where they were born.

Yeah, it's a good time. Haven't gotten up the guts to ride the big Ferris wheel yet, but it's comin.' If nothin' else, I'll have a dare devil daughter one day that I won't be able to look like a wimp
in front of and I'll be forced to ride it, Lord help me!
in front of and I'll be forced to ride it, Lord help me!If you get a chance, do your Texas Duty and drop by the Great State Fair of Texas. You'll be glad you did, and Big Tex'll tip his hat to ya! Just one thing to remember, PAY THE $20 for valet parking. The short African American with the orange flag doesn't really have $5 parking just across the street from the entrance. If you value your life, property, personal privacy, and your grand fair experience, pay the $20. TRUST ME!
Y'all have a good day now, ya hear!

I used to LOVE going to the fair!! I haven't been in years - but can still taste the corn dogs!! There's nothing like 'em. My favorite part was the car show, also. It was there when I was about 13 or 14, I fell in love with the Chevy Cavalier and wanted one someday. I grew out of that notion - but still have fond memories of that time.
Don't you wish you had that Cavalier, I mean, it's much better than an Avalon or a Jeep...lol!
I love the fair! There is nothing like the Great State Fair of Texas...if for no other reason than you just feel the very essence of what it means to be Texan pouring out of you.
I have heard that another state...if you can call it a state...has a pretty good fair itself...personally, I wouldn't be caught dead attending...but that's only me.
And by the way...Fletcher Corn Dogs are not only the best...they are the FIRST. Fletcher was the very first to wrap meat in a corn batter and fry it. Just a little FYI Texas trivia.
In 1942 to be exact.
It is lunch time and I want your corn dog with mustard. I don't know if I have ever had a Fletcher, but Sonic's aren't too bad! hmmm
